Electric Scooter Charly
Dear Sir / Madam,
I have contacted you directly as I have been mobile with Charly since 09.08.2002. At that time I had a slight walking disability and this was a wonderful vehicle for me. I was able to do my shopping in the city with “Charly” and could even ride directly to the counter! Whilst riding about Karlsruhe I was able to promote Charly and soon became “notorious” as the businessman on the electric scooter Charly.
In 2005 I had a stoke. I told the doctors in the rehabilitation facility that I wanted to ride my Charly again, however the doctors told me that this would no longer be possible. I asked my son to bring Charly to the hospital for me and I rode around the hospital with it and parked it beside my bed in my room. I went everywhere on Charly, so that I could prove to the psychologists that I was still able to ride my electric scooter.

MZ Charly
You’re looking for a compact electric scooter? Then MZ’s Charly is maybe just what you’ve been searching for. The compact construction and powerful electric motor make Charly an excellent companion on company grounds, camping sites, at festivals or for a quick trip in the city.
Speeds of more than 20 km/h aren’t possible – however in exchange you ride a really cool and cultish vehicle!
Charly from MZ is not a regular electric scooter. The double headlights make it look rather like a robot out of TV-series in the 1970’s. However, it is filled with innovative electrotechnology and a modern rechargeable battery. The Motor allows Charly to accelerate quickly to 20 km/h, which is more than fast enough considering you don’t have to wear a helmet, no matter whether you’re riding in the city or on company grounds.
It is not mandatory to wear a helmet. All road users who were born before 01.04.1965 don’t even need a driving licence to ride Charly into the sunset! All those who were born after this date only require a driving licence for a moped or a car.
A distance of approximately 20 kilometres is possible with MZ Charly. When you consider that most people only make short journeys every day either by car or using public transport, an electric scooter could be a sensible alternative for many commuters. Even if the rechargeable battery completely drains on the way to work, it can be recharged using a normal electric socket in only 5 hours and Charly is then fit again for a journey of approximately 20 kilometres and you can ride home without a worry.
Emission-free and efficient – That’s the vision of the future
MZ Charly is an efficient vehicle. Long journeys, obviously, are out of the question, however Charly is perfect for making short journeys and is great fun to ride! And if you recharge the battery with electricity from a photovoltaic facility, you can ride through the city with a clear conscience.

It really is easy to ride and is not just for old people. I don’t understand why large companies don’t use them on their company grounds or at trade fairs. Our company had one for a trial period. At first I thought that it was a stupid idea, however after I’d taken it for a quick spin I changed my mind. It was fun to ride and saved loads of time. Everywhere seemed “nearer” especially going from one end of the company to the other. Everyone wanted to ride Charly at lunchtime, but as it got too much our foreman banned it. It’s a pity that the trial period is over and our zippy little electric scooter has been returned to its owner. I really would like to use one again, especially at the next trade fair. |

Hi Folks,
I’ve been given a Charly from MZ. Charly is an electric scooter with really small wheels. It weighs about 40 kg, and when the battery is fully charged, it can do about 25 km/h. It looks really funny - if you’ve seen the film “Short Circuit” (in Germany “Nummer 5 lebt”) then you can imagine what Charly looks like. The front lights look like two big eyes and the horn is the funniest thing ever. If you’re seriously thinking about buying a Charly, then whatever you do, don’t toot the horn behind pensioners; you’ll give them a heart attack. Charly’s small wheels make it really agile. Just twist the twist grip-throttle on the right handle bar to get Charly moving – the acceleration is amazing. Charly is not exactly cheap to buy, but as he uses electricity instead of petrol, it pays off in the long run. To charge the battery you just have to connect it to the next socket. Charly is also very convenient for shopping trips nearby or riding quickly to training practice. Only one thing is annoying – because Charly looks really cool, people constantly stop me and ask me about Charly, how much it costs etc. Charly really has become a cult object where I live and I think that the people actually know Charly and not me! Anyway, I wish you loads of fun with Charly if you buy one. It’s worth it. See you, Timberwolf |
